What’s It Like To Live In Rockingham, Western Australia?

Considering moving to Perth? Well you don’t have to live bang, smack in the middle of the city. Perth is surrounded by fantastic coastal suburbs, so here, we take a look at what it’s like to live in Rockingham.

Where is Rockingham?

Rockingham, a suburb of Perth, is one of Western Australia’s fastest growing districts. Only 35 minutes away from the city of Perth, Rockingham is ideal for commuters who are also keen to enjoy an excellent quality of life, as it offers a great beachside location.

In recent years, the city has seen a number of changes, including expansion of residential areas, significant development in industrial and commercial areas, as well as a growing tourism trade. Rich in maritime history and the shipbuilding trade, the area is also home to the Royal Australian Navy’s main fleet base HMAS Stirling.

The Lifestyle

For tourists and residents alike there are ample shopping opportunities, including the regional hub of the Rockingham Shopping Centre as well as an abundance of restaurants, bars and cafes. Most of the beach areas around Rockingham offer safe, sandy playgrounds for adults and children alike, with the aptly named Safety Bay ideal for windsurfing, kitesurfing and plenty of other watersports and beach activities. Just off the coast you can also hop on a ferry and visit the natural habitat of Penguin Island, home to a variety of wildlife, flora and fauna.

Property Prices in Rockingham

Property prices in the area are still considered to be at a moderate level compared to other areas in Western Australia, and with continuing expansion in the city, offers current residents and prospective buyers hope of rising property values in the future.

Who suits living in Rockingham?

If you’re moving the family to Australia and have children, then Rockingham is a great place to live. As we mentioned there are plenty of beaches and it’s right on the coast, so weekends can be spent doing watersports. It’s a fairly quiet suburb, so if you like to get the most out of your evenings and weekends with staying active and being out on the water, then Rockingham if for you!
