Can I still apply for Australian citizenship even though the laws have not passed in parliament?

Although the citizenship legislation is still to be confirmed in parliament, it is still possible to apply for Australian citizenship if you wish to.

If you do choose to apply for citizenship during this time however, it’s important to understand that the Government has announced a number of reforms will apply to citizenship applications received on or after 20 April 2017. The new citizenship legislation for these reforms will be introduced by the end of 2017.

We have received a number of requests for Australian citizenship and we are continuing to assist with citizenship lodgements on the basis that you understand your application may be impacted by the new requirements and that there is a possibility your application may need to be withdrawn. If this were to occur, the costs that you pay for the application will not be recoverable.

You can read about the proposed citizenship changes here. If you have been an Australian permanent resident for four years and would like to find out if you are eligible to apply for citizenship, contact hello@immigracious.com.au or call 08 62634406 to speak to a migration agent.
